Cabo San Lucas has long been one of our favorite destinations for fun, sun and sand, but there are also very few destinations we are more excited about for new hotel openings. The tip of Baja California Sur has numerous debuts — buzzy newcomers include The Resort at Pedregal and The Cape, a Thompson Hotel — planned over the next few years, as well as a full slate of recently updated favorites, including the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort and Esperanza, an Auberge Resort, and the Four-Star One & Only Palmilla.
Here are the forthcoming properties we can’t wait to experience most.
The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Los Cabos
The fourth Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the brand’s upper-end portfolio, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Los Cabos anticipates having a mix of hotel rooms and residences when it opens in the upscale Puerto Los Cabos development in 2018.
The 124 single-story oceanfront villas all will boast views of the Sea of Cortez and feature high-end bonuses like private infinity plunge pools, outdoor terraces with fireplaces, outdoor showers and butler services.
Planned on-property amenities include a spa, a desert botanical theme park, two private golf courses from Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, and a 500-slip marina and wharf.
VieVage Los Cabos, An Auberge Property
Tucked into the protected shores of Chileno Bay, this resort and its residences will be a hipper, lifestyle-focused version of big sister Esperanza. The name, which loosely translates to “lifestyle journey” in French, is built as part of a 22-acre beachfront community and a larger 1,200-acre development.
The intimate resort has a planned late 2016 opening and is the first for Auberge’s new offshoot brand. Guests will take advantage of unusually (for Cabo, anyway) calm waters perfect for coral reef diving and watersports, and have access to amenities like a full-service spa, fitness center, beach club and several onsite restaurants.
Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas
Four Seasons recently announced the 2018 opening of its first Cabo San Lucas property in the posh Costa Palmas development. The 145-room jewel will feature multiple pools, a full-service spa, a members-only beach and an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course. A unique highlight: a marina, which can dock yachts of up to 250 feet, and a marina village with boutiques and cafés.
Montage Los Cabos
Montage anticipates a late 2017 opening for its first Cabo San Lucas resort in the new Maravilla Los Cabos development. The 122-room resort and 52 Montage residences will be the first international location for the brand.
Not many details are yet available, but we can expect a signature Spa Montage, an onsite activities pavilion with putt-putt, tennis and basketball facilities, two pools, a kid’s club and rooms that blend desert chic with indoor-outdoor living.
