If you’ve ever stayed at Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe and didn’t want to leave, you now have another option. The hotel offers the Residences, 23 luxury penthouses (with 16 still available for purchase) that give you permanent accommodations on the mountain, and we mean that literally — this hotel is mid-mountain at Northstar Resort and provides the only ski-in/ski-out accessibility in Lake Tahoe.
Along with ownership of a luxe penthouse, you receive all the benefits of a hotel guest at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. From the ski valet to the enormous gym and heated outdoor pool (take a dip in July or while you watch the rest of your family head down the slopes in December), the amenities are posh and wide-ranging. There’s also preferred reservations to both Four-Star The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Lake Tahoe and to Manzanita, a Four-Star restaurant serving up delicious California-style cuisine in a relaxed, lodge-inspired atmosphere (or order room service straight to your penthouse).
Ranging from two-, three- and four-bedroom residences, these homes take up the entire sixth floor of the hotel (with keycard-access elevator entry) and a private wing of the third floor and have picturesque views of either Mantis Valley or Northstar Mountain. The contemporary, lodge-style homes are designed in a variety of floor plans, such as a split-level penthouse (with a gorgeous second-floor foyer overlooking the room and views of the outside landscape) with an accompanying wine storage room, theater, office and four bedrooms, to residences with huge summer terraces and a 360-degree, glass-enclosed sunroom looking out onto the mountain. Sizes range from 1,554 to 3,407 square feet.
But a bigger draw to a purchasing a home here just may be Tahoe itself. And summertime certainly has a way of bringing out the lake’s leisurely side. Head to the lake for swimming (it might be a bit chilly if you take a dip before mid-August), kayaking or paddleboarding in the crystal-clear waters. When Tahoe’s first snow arrives in November, however, it’s all about the slopes. And at 7,000 feet, Northstar Mountain is right at your fingertips and proves the ideal spot to board, ski or simply enjoy the view of snowy layout like an Olympian. After all, this is the same place where two-time gold medalist Shaun White trains.
