In our first Instagram contest, Los Angeles-based photographer L Lawson (@thelightrecord) earned the top honor and won a trip to Vancouver. We asked Lawson to document his trip and share his unique point of view.

While exploring the Canadian city, Lawson shot photos from the sky, ground and water. “I feel that Vancouver presents itself well from all three perspectives,” said Lawson, who has a penchant for aerial photography.

See the city from Lawson’s lens with the Vancouver Instagram guide below.

“While the stunning city views are enough to grab one’s attention, it is the people that will grab your heart in Vancouver.”

“The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is a must-see. Such dense, beautiful nature can be found only 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver.”

“The Olympic Torch, a remnant of the 2010 Winter Games, has become a landmark along the Vancouver waterfront.”

“I find myself inspired to be up early — before the sun — outside and being active while I am here. I feel most alive in the ambrosial morning hours. The city skyline is best viewed from Stanley Park just as the sun is rising and the light is softly reflecting off the buildings.”

“It is rare to find a city ‘interact’ so organically with the nature that surrounds it. Vancouver is green both inside and out. Newcomer to the skyline, the spiraling Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver, lower left, is scheduled to open in August.”

“When you are not out exploring the magic of the city, all of your expectations will be met and exceeded by the team at Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Fairmont Pacific Rim. Perfectly situated adjacent to Canada Place and the convention center, you will be central to all of the action.”

“Even well into the spring, the neighboring mountains make Vancouver a destination for lovers of snow sports with some slopes staying open until as late as May 30! As for me, I’m just fine down here, away from the snow.”

“The iconic Vancouver Lookout at the Harbour Centre has characterized the city skyline since 1977, when American astronaut Neil Armstrong attended the grand opening. Your adventure starts with a 40-second glass elevator ride, whisking you 553.16 feet skyward to the panoramic observation deck, which is a great place to watch the sun set.”
