Five Things We Love About The St. Regis New York
      By Forbes Travel Guide Inspector

      June 23, 2012

Staying at The St. Regis New York is a luxurious splurge, but it can certainly help make a trip to New York a memorable one. Here’s a round-up of the five things we love most about the Five-Star hotel:

      1. You can’t beat the personalized service. Each room is assigned a black-tails-wearing butler who helps you with everything from wake-up calls to running errands to planning a cocktail party. The butler will serve you coffee and tea every morning, help you unpack and is on call 24 hours through the bedside paging system or the E-Butler service — just send off an email when you’re on the go and your butler will read it on a handheld device.

      2. Remède Spa by The St. Regis New York. Exhausted from traveling? Hit the Spa by the St. Regis on the hotel’s lower level for a relaxing jet lag massage, designed to relieve tension from sitting for an extended period. The spa uses a high-end line of Remède products and offers facials, massages, body wraps, hot stone treatments, waxing and manicures and pedicures. Holistic treatments such as gemstone reflexology and vibration sound therapy round out the spa’s numerous options.

      3. Adour. You don’t have to leave the New York hotel to enjoy world-class French cuisine. Chef Alain Ducasse’s Four-Star Adour calls the St. Regis lobby home and offers an indulgent $110 tasting menu with complex dishes such as a roasted rack of lamb with potatoes boulangères and scallion or a pear composition with honey parfait, roasted pecans and maple ice cream, though the menu changes seasonally. Adour’s bar has the country’s only interactive projection wine list — just touch the bar top to learn more about the varietals, origins, tasting notes and price.

      4. Location, location, location. You can’t beat the hotel’s prime spot on East 55th Street at Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. You’re a short walk, cab ride or bus ride from the best the city has to offer: Central Park, Broadway shows, Lincoln Center, the Museum Mile and the Museum of Modern Art, and Fifth Avenue shopping at boutiques and department stores, including the flagship Saks.

      5. The history. The hotel is a designated New York landmark with a history that dates back to 1904. The original owner, wealthy New York socialite John Jacob Astor IV, envisioned the hotel as a lavish retreat with residential flair. Astor actually died on the Titanic, but his dream lives on — the hotel features an opulent marble staircase, brass work in the lobby and plush Egyptian-cotton-lined beds, but still evokes a homey feel.
