Locals dub Fiji‘s Monuriki “Cast Away Island” because it’s where the Tom Hanks movie of the same name was filmed. Monuriki, part of the Mamanuca Island group, is small and uninhabited, though it does provide coconuts and local vegetables for the villages on nearby islands. Just west of Nadi, the Mamanucas are a string of about 20 volcanic islands known for their white-sand beaches and great water activities. While Hanks’ character used his time on the island to bond with Wilson, we opted to snorkel just off the shore among the tropical fish and reefs.
