Friday Travel Photo: Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai
      By Forbes Travel Guide Inspector

      April 27, 2012

We announced Forbes Travel Guide’s first Five-Star ratings of hotels and spas in Shanghai on Wednesday, so it seems only fitting that this week’s “Friday Travel Photo” highlights one of the city’s famous attractions. During our wintertime trip to the Asian metropolis, we stopped in Yuyuan Garden — commonly known as Yu Garden — in Shanghai’s Old Town. It’s one of the city’s last-remaining classical gardens, and the five-acre plot dates back to the Ming Dynasty. As you walk through the maze-like paths, you’ll discover rockeries with enormous stones that look like carefully crafted sculptures and preserved traditional black and red pavilions. Schools of brilliantly hued koi inhabit the ponds, making for a prime photo opportunity in this popular tourist spot.
