It’s that time of year — when luxury hotels present glittering ice-skating rinks for the enjoyment of travelers and locals alike. Here’s the scoop on four of our favorite pop-up rinks nationwide.
A favorite of the fashion set, the glam rink at this New York boutique hotel is scheduled to open in late November. Enjoy post-skate treats — think crepes, hot toddies and spiked peanut-butter hot chocolate — at the rink-side café, Kaffeeklatsch. Price is $12 per hour. There will also be 30-minute lessons for $25. Skates will be available for rent, too.
Reservations are recommended to visit the enchanting Astor Holiday Rink, a wintertime recasting of the pool on the Four-Star St. Regis Atlanta’s 40,000-square-foot Pool Piazza. Hit the ice November 21 through January 2; adults skate for $30 and children under 16 for $18. Bonus: S’mores by the outdoor fireplace.
You can skate in the desert at this Arizona resort (and yes, the rink is made with real ice). The 5,400-square-foot skating area is located in the hotel’s Cactus Garden and is open November 27 through January 6. Price is $15 for adults, $10 for children 12 years and under.
The San Diego area resort will open its famous rink overlooking the Pacific Ocean for the eighth year, offering various daily skating sessions from November 21 through January 5. Avoid waiting in line by pre-purchasing tickets online — $25 for adults and $20 for kids aged 10 and under.
