Wine oenophiles may have Napa Valley, but tequila fans have a spot all their own, too: Mexico’s Tequila Trail. Located in the region outside of Guadalajara in Jalisco, this trail of tourist-friendly tequila distilleries has gained more popularity in recent years — and it’s worth checking out.
Mundo Cuervo, the visitor center for Jose Cuervo, is located in the town of Tequila, just a one-hour drive southeast of Guadalajara (Mexico’s second-largest city). There’s plenty to do at Mundo Cuervo — including lots of restaurant options — but we suggest starting with a distillery tour. Tours are offered at La Rojeña, the oldest distillery plant at Jose Cuervo. Upon request, you can book a special VIP tour, which includes a trip to the room where the brand’s most exclusive tequila, Reserva de Familia, is aged. If you don’t feel like renting a car and driving to Tequila, you can hop on the new Jose Cuervo Express, a train that runs directly from Guadalajara to Tequila.
