Many travelers checking into hotels affected by Superstorm Sandy encountered helpful amenities — including light sticks, games and even specialty cocktails.
USA Today reports that the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Four Seasons Hotel New York was among the hotels providing light sticks to guests in case of a likely power outage (and less likely generator failure). Upon check-in, guests there received a little bag containing a flashlight, bottle of water and a note from the general manager explaining that assistance was easy to find.
Luckily power never went off at the Four-Star Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C., but the hotel had provided guests a few light sticks at turndown just in case, public relations director Colleen Evans told us. Hotel staffers also tried to keep guests entertained with Wii titles and a range of board games like Yahtzee, Monopoly and backgammon. The restaurants are open, providing “Sandy-inspired” cocktails: the Frank-N-Stormy (Myers’s rum, ginger beer, lime wedge for garnish) and the Hurricane (white rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine).
Four-Star sister hotel The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington, D.C., is offering aSweet Storm cocktail withTahitian vanilla bean–infused Grey Goose and Godiva white chocolate, served in a martini glass. For those out of harm’s way, these drinks are a way to “lighten the mood, engage guests and cure any cabin fever,” said Evans.
