There’s that moment every summer when you doubt the heat will ever end. As you might guess, Las Vegas provides several of those moments. Triple-digit temperatures are a reality when visiting the Nevada desert four to five months out of the year. Avoid a sweltering dose of reality with frequent frozen refreshers. Here are six don’t-miss ice cream desserts that will leave a cooling sensation on the palate.
Giada
There’s one five-letter word that excites many diners: Giada. And Forbes Travel Guide Recommended The Cromwell is the only place in the world where you can sample the Food Network star’s cuisine without having to make it yourself.
That’s not where the exclusivity ends. Only on the brunch tasting menu will you find the delicate three-bite lemon ricotta ice cream sandwich, which consists of two of Giada’s signature cookies with raspberry and buttermilk gelato lathered in between. The citrus snap of the flaky confection plays well with the creamy, tart, frozen filling. Eat one and crave a dozen.
The Buffet at Wynn
After a decadent meal at a gourmet buffet, the last thing on your mind is more food. But at The Buffet at Wynn, the casual eatery tucked inside the Four-Star Wynn Las Vegas, the adage “save room for dessert” is not just advice, but a warning.
Since the restaurant was remodeled in 2015, more than 120 new dishes have been introduced, along with 39 desserts. The centerpiece is the ice cream wheel with 12 flavors that literally rotate. Flavors that will pass by include green tea, sea salt caramel and cookies and cream.
Other cold desserts include crème brûlée, mixed berry cheesecake, yuzu citrus bars, caramel popcorn cake and guava panna cotta.
STK
What’s the best way to finish off a perfectly charred and seasoned piece of rare meat? Ice cream, of course.
Pastry chef Brigette Contreras got her start at STK Los Angeles before moving to the restaurant’s outpost inside Four-Star The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. There, Contreras brought a focus on sweets that are a true bite of Americana.
Try the Ice STK, an ice cream or sorbet trio, the banana bread sundae with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, or the chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream. If you can’t decide, order them all.
The Golden Tiki
If the mood for a drinkable dessert strikes, head off the Strip to Chinatown and pay a visit to The Golden Tiki, a kitschy-cool themed watering hole that features a Dole Whip machine, the pineapple soft-serve favored by Disneyland devotees.
Three drinks feature the frosty sensation: the Painkiller, with rum, orange juice and coconut cream; Banana Batida, featuring cachaça blended with coconut cream and banana liqueur; and the Dole Whip Rum Float.
Gelatology
Local favorite Gelatology by Desyreé Alberganti, located in the city’s southwest area, treats its confectionary pursuits as science. Mixing unlikely flavor combinations, the shop finds endless inspirations to create unique offerings such as Oprah chai tea, cactus pear and Nutella latte.
Grab a scoop or try the new croissant gelato sandwich, topped with fresh strawberry, salt, caramel and chocolate sauce.
Momenti Spirited Ice Creams
A uniquely Las Vegas business, Momenti Spirited Ice Creams makes booze-infused flavors such as White Russian pecan, vodka cookies and cream, blackberry cabernet sorbet and limoncello sorbet.
This take-home treat is available for purchase at Total Wine & More and Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits. Earlier this year, Momenti opened the first specialty manufacturing plant in the U.S. for spirit-infused ice creams and sorbets.
