Celebrate the 40th anniversary of The White Barn Inn May 31 through June 1 in Kennebunk, Maine, with a slate full of posh happenings commemorating the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel’s history. Book the 40th Anniversary Package and indulge in a two-night stay at The White Barn Inn, a continental breakfast, afternoon tea and the two main events: a poolside cocktail party kicking off the weekend and a nine-course tasting menu with wine pairings during the gala dinner at The White Barn Inn Restaurant on June 1.
The dinner at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star restaurant will take guests through the culinary history of the Inn, with iconic dishes starting from the opening year of 1973 with crab-stuffed artichokes with béarnaise, bacon-wrapped scallops in maple-Dijon cream and oxtail consommé. Diners will make stops in 1979 (caramel corn and poached pear oysters); 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 (seasonal vegetable ravioli); 2005, 2010 (an olive-poached local beef tenderloin); 2012 for the cheese course, and end in the present-day 2013 with an anniversary soufflé. Singer Allison Duhamel will entertain guests, as will the displays of the Inn throughout its 40 years.
The wines will take you back in time as well with a Pereira D’Oliveira’s 1973 Verdelho being served with the 1979 dish and two others — a very rare bottle of 1973 Hanzell Vineyards Pinot Noir, Sonoma Valley and a 1973 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon — will be raffled with proceeds going to the Share Our Strength organization, which fights child hunger.
All guests staying at the Inn during the festivities will receive a gift of Naran Ji hand wash and lotion in a gift bag from Molton Brown (also celebrating 40 years). The package starts at $410 per night, with the cocktail party costing an additional $40 and the dinner an additional $400.
