      Three Valentine’s Day Escapes
By Forbes Travel Guide Editor Morgan Lord

      January 25, 2012

It’s almost February, which means it’s time to start planning your Valentine’s Day retreat. We’ve sifted through a number of packages to find the most romantic and luxurious getaways to impress your loved one. We think even Cupid would approve.

Valentine’s Weekend at Blantyre (Lenox, Mass.) Spend Feb. 10 to 12 at the Five-Star Blantyre, a Tudor mansion tucked in the Berkshire Mountains. Blantyre is decidedly romantic, showcasing a British country style with floral fabrics, overstuffed furniture and, in some rooms, fireplaces. Booking a room here over the holiday weekend secures you chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne upon arrival, plus a fruit and cheese plate waiting in your room. You’ll also have a chance to unwind with the treatment of your choice at the hotel’s Potting Shed Spa. Top off your couple’s rendezvous with a sleigh ride for two in the New England countryside. (This package is complimentary with a two-night stay Feb. 10-12.) Or if you prefer an intimate dinner for two, stop by Blantyre’s dining room for a four-course Valentine’s Day menu, champagne toast, bouquet of long-stem roses and sleigh ride through the countryside. (This dinner package is $180.)

Auberge’s Cabernet Season Package at Auberge du Soleil (Rutherford, Calif.). Sun-drenched Auberge du Soleil sits on a quiet, 33-acre hillside olive grove in Napa Valley. The Provence-inspired Four-Star hotel is the perfect place to spend your Valentine’s Day, especially if you love wine. Upon arrival, you’ll find a bottle of Auberge’s cabernet reserve — complete with a leather carrier — waiting for you. For dinner, you and your mate will enjoy a four-course meal with a flight of three Napa cabernets. After a refreshing night of sleep, wake up to breakfast for two and take a private VIP wine tour and tasting at the nearby Quintessa Winery. (This one-night package starts at $1,025 per couple.)

The Romantic Escape at Acqualina Resort & Spa (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.). Located just north of Miami on a peaceful stretch of beach, Acqualina is a Mediterranean-style Four-Star hotel and home to the holistic Acqualina Spa by ESPA (equipped with steam rooms, saunas, experience showers and a private pool). Couples who want to spend the holiday relaxing can try the Romantic Escape package, which comes with a private spa suite and a two-hour treatment of the lovebirds’ choice. Post-treatment you’ll receive a warming shower for two, bento box lunches and two glasses of Perrier-Jouët bubby with a Valentine’s Day must-have: chocolate. (180 minutes for $1,050 per couple.)
