What You Get in Vail Resort's $50,000 Anniversary Package
By Forbes Travel Guide Editor Sarah Gleim

      November 2, 2012

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Vail’s 50th anniversary season when it officially opens Nov. 16, but it’s hard to top the $50,000 package at The Lodge at Vail.

Available through April 15, the über-luxe trip includes five nights in The Lodge’s penthouse, plus two additional evenings at the secluded Game Creek Chalet located 10,500 feet atop Vail Mountain. You’ll also get four Epic passes (unlimited skiing at Vail, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge and Keystone); ski and snowboard rentals; access to snow tubing, ski biking and more at Adventure Ridge; and a $5,000 gift card for Specialty Sports Venture.

Your fridge will also come stocked with $500 worth of groceries, and you’ll get four dinners cooked by a private chef, plus a night out at The 10th — a fine dining restaurant overlooking Gore Range. As if that weren’t enough, you’ll be chauffeured around in The Lodge at Vail’s Cadillac the entire week.

The transportation will come in handy for all of the must-visit anniversary events. Vail doesn’t actually turn 50 until Dec. 15, but special parties and concerts will take place throughout the month, including the 50th anniversary Snow Daze event (Dec. 10 to 16) featuring a killer lineup of live music — Wilco, The Shins and Michael Franti & Spearhead. And the Dec. 15 party at Mountain Plaza will offer a full fireworks display.

The celebrations will kick off at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 16 with a dedication of Vail’s brand-new, state-of-the-art gondola in Vail Village. Lift No. 1 — named in honor of Vail’s original gondola — will be the fastest of its kind (just seven-and-a-half minutes from the base to Mid-Vail), and the 10-passenger cabins have heated, cushioned seats and Wi-Fi to make your ski trip that much cozier.
