Hotels in Hawaii, Bali and the Dominican Republic caught the eyes of our Instagram followers at @ForbesTravelGuide last month. But the one that won them over was Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in Puerto Rico.
Coincidentally, the oceanfront hotel marks its 100th anniversary this year. Back in 1919, wealthy businessman Frederick William Vanderbilt built a grand getaway for celebrities, socialites and royalty. Vanderbilt enlisted architecture firm Warren and Wetmore — which also designed New York City’s iconic Grand Central Station and Colorado Springs’ preeminent hotel, The Broadmoor — to create Condado’s Spanish Revival structure.
