In honor of National Bourbon Heritage Month — an observance created five years ago by the U.S. Senate, believe it or not — Bourbon Steak at Turnberry Isle Miami is celebrating its (half) namesake with daily bourbon tastings through the end of September. Bonus: You can chase the spicy bourbon selections with sweet, liquored-up desserts.
Each evening at 6, enjoy a bourbon flight under the direction of mixologist Peter Roca; labels include Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve, Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 23 Year and A. H. Hirsch Reserve 16 Year. The restaurant’s signature butter-truffle popcorn is included in the tasting’s $20 cost.
We recommend following the tasting with dinner at Bourbon Steak, a modern, Miami-style take on the classic American steakhouse and the region’s only restaurant from celebrity chef Michael Mina. Bookend your meal with spirits by ordering the beignets with Macallan 18 Year butterscotch pot de crème for dessert — or stick to the complimentary dark-chocolate truffles with bourbon-caramel ganache.
Of course, given the congressional origins of National Bourbon Heritage Month, you might consider it your patriotic duty to consume both.
