As the Tigers and Giants continue to battle on the diamond, the home turfs of both Detroit and San Francisco continue to hustle and bustle with unique happenings. We rounded up a double play of events for each city — so no matter where your team loyalty lies, you’ll be able to soak in some non-ballpark fun.
Detroit
Detroit Beer Festival, October 26-27
Before you hit Comerica Park, pregame at the fourth annual Detroit Beer Festival. Live entertainment will enhance the beers you’ll sip (your $40 ticket includes 15 drink tokens). And with more than 300 beers from more than 50 Michigan craft brewers available, you might just forget about the crack of the bat and instead focus on the art of the pour.
Tashmoo Biergarten, October 27, 28
It’s the final weekend for this West Village pop-up beer garden, so what better time to enjoy the crisp fall air and revel in victory (or — less fun — wallow in defeat) than now? Enjoy a beer from a handful of Michigan brewers, including Jolly Pumpkin, Dragonmead and Arcadia, while chowing down on some equally delicious food from People’s Pierogi Collective, Treat Dreams and more. Games such as chess, checkers and backgammon will also be on offer, so test your skills against fellow Detroiters. And if you can hold out until Sunday, the event will include special menus with brunch items and beer pairings.
San Francisco
SF Mad Dash: Helluva Halloween (5K Costume Run), October 27
Sitting at a stadium for three (or four, or five) hours may leave you feeling a little bogged down by one too many beverages and hotdogs. Luckily, this 5K at Polo Fields Golden Gate Park is a good opportunity for any baseball fan to get up and run to alleviate any ballpark lethargy. Embrace the Halloween spirit by dressing in costume, and after the race, re-embrace your baseball spirit at the beer (and wine) garden.
The Walt Disney Family Museum Giants Discount, Throughout the World Series
Since most of San Francisco will be dressed head-to-toe in Giants gear anyway, this promotion at The Walt Disney Family Museum is perfect: You’ll receive a $5 discount on admission if you’re wearing any Giants-branded apparel. You (and your Disney-loving kids) can stroll through the imagination of Walt himself with exhibits featuring 25,000 works, such as film clips, musical scores and more.
