From children’s books to spy movies, luxury hotels offer unique suites that embrace a theme with over-the-top results. We chose five themed — but upscale — suites, primed for one-of-a-kind stays, or even a party. Read on for our picks.
007 Suite at Seven Hotel, Paris. The chic boutique hotel in the Paris’ Latin Quarter boasts seven themed suites, including one fashioned after James Bond’s British spy style. Modern yet retro, the suite’s design includes a dramatic wooden arched ceiling that’s lined with tiny lights — bringing to mind a submarine, an airplane or spaceship. The details here are undeniably cool — a curtain parts to reveal a massive screen (where you can watch all 22 Bond films), revolver lamps light up the lounge and bedroom, and the all-glass steam shower has a sleek teak wood seat and massage settings.
Eloise Suite at The Plaza Hotel, New York City. This iconic Fifth Avenue hotel dedicates a very pink suite to Eloise, the storybook character who lived in the hotel in author Kay Thompson’s classic books. The 18th-floor suite inside the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel was decorated by fashion designer Betsey Johnson and embraces the girly theme — think pink-and-white striped wallpaper, zebra-print carpet, a crystal chandelier and pink floral bedding. Dress-up ready tutus and feather boas are stocked in the closet, and a disposable camera is provided to capture your best looks. The bathroom has original Eloise illustrations on the walls, plus a monogrammed bathrobe and pink bubble bath. If you’re hosting a gaggle of girls, you can book the adjoining suite — the grown-up room comes with champagne and truffles.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono Suite at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, Montreal. When John Lennon and Yoko Ono decided to advocate for world peace in 1969, the famous couple holed up in this room. During the “Bed-in for Peace” protest, the song Give Peace a Chance was composed and recorded inside. Today, you can reserve a stay in the suite, which overlooks the city and is subtly decorated with memorabilia from the protest, including a collection of press articles, framed gold records and photographs taken of the couple. The hotel offers a package that includes a Lennon CD, and the downstairs Les Voyageurs Bar serves a cocktail to commemorate the event — the sake-, vodka- and cucumber-blended Yoko Fresh.
Barbie Suite at Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas. This Jonathan Adler-designed suite channels the sophisticated side of the famous doll — details include corseted lace-up chairs, hot pink and black walls and a sunburst-shaped mirror made from 65 Barbies. Located on the 26th floor of the hotel’s Fantasy tower, the luxury pad sleeps between two and four people, but can accommodate up to 50 if you want to entertain — think bachelorette party. Two life-size pink poodle statues flank the two-way fireplace, while the walls of the suite showcase Barbie art, including a unique Warhol-esque piece in the powder room. If Barbies aren’t your speed, the Palms is known for its other over-the-top suites — including the 10,000-square-foot Hardwood Suite featuring an indoor basketball court, locker room and scoreboard.
Tiffany Suite at The St. Regis New York, New York City. This elegant suite — decked out in trademark Tiffany & Co. blue — sits on the 14th floor of this Five-Star hotel. Starwood Hotels designer Caroline Rippeteau created the suite in collaboration with the jewelry company. The space mixes views of Central Park with jewel-inspired features — there are McGuire jewel-shaped armchairs and a dining room meant to look like the Tiffany box. The suite is stocked with Tiffany & Co. china, silverware and barware to use during your stay — make sure to look up when you dine to see the theatrical chandelier hanging with sparkling crystal strands above the table. One extra bonus? Your reservation comes with after-hours access to Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue, located just two blocks from the hotel.
