Any New Yorker will tell you the city that never sleeps also offers the best of everything — including over-the-top, jaw-dropping hotel suites. Check out these five fabulous Manhattan rooms, rounded up by our Forbes Travel Guide editors.
Four Seasons Hotel New York’s Ty Warner Penthouse: On the 52nd floor of this Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel, you’ll find a 4,300-square-foot suite named for the hotel’s owner, who also put his luxe design stamp on it — think lacquered walls inlaid with mother of pearl, and a silk canopy bedspread woven with 22-carat gold threads. The views are nothing short of spectacular; guests can take in 360 degrees of city vistas from four separate glass balconies.
The St. Regis New York’s Presidential Suite: It looks like a grand Fifth Avenue apartment and feels even more luxurious, thanks to the Five-Star hotel’s 24-hour butler service and other high-end amenities, including a dining room mirror that transforms into a TV, a decorative antique fireplace, a full-service kitchen and a walnut-paneled library. The three-bedroom, four-and-half-bath, 3,430-square-foot space overlooks Central Park and Fifth Avenue.
The Plaza Hotel’s Royal Plaza Suite: Inspired by the royal court of known minimalist Louis XV (we kid), the Royal Plaza Suite at the Four-Star hotel is flush with rich velvety fabrics, ornate furniture and a slew of large picture windows that look out onto Fifth Avenue and the iconic Pulitzer Fountain. Guests in the three-bedroom, 4,490-square-foot suite can use the in-suite gymnasium, full-service Viking kitchen and private elevator.
Mandarin Oriental, New York’s Presidential Suite: Filled with Asian artifacts such as a 250-year-old parchment calligraphy book and ancient textiles, the 2,640-square-foot suite sits on the 53rd floor of the Five-Star hotel and has panoramic views of Central Park. Luxe fabrics and materials are at every turn, from the silk upholstered walls in the master bedroom to the honey onyx walls in the oversized bathroom.
The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park’s Royal Suite: The elegant décor and gracious service are great, but the amenities in the 1,980-square-foot suite are what impressed us most. Guests get a choice of custom-designed Pratesi sheets, linen and terry robes, Asprey and Cote Bastide bath products, access to The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge (hello, free food and snacks) and even a working telescope to zero in on Manhattan from the 22nd floor of the Five-Star hotel.
