Il Borro Looks to Lure in U.S. Travelers
By Forbes Travel Guide Editor Hayley Bosch

      September 12, 2012

Sprawled out on more than 1,700 acres in Tuscany’s Pratomagno Mountains, Il Borro is luxurious — and how could it not be with the legendary Ferragamo family as the resort’s owners? While the fashion-centric family has had the estate since 1993, it just launched its first U.S. campaign, inviting you to experience what this resort has to offer.

For starters, Il Borro is set within a medieval village about 40 miles outside Florence with everything from a vineyard to an equestrian center onsite. There are just 30 accommodations (ranging from suites and apartments to villas and farmhouses), so it’s large enough that you don’t feel isolated, but intimate enough to snag your own private spot under the Tuscan sun. The king of them all is Villa Il Borro, which was built in 1848 by Prince Hohenloe and has been extensively restored by the Ferragamos. The 24,000-square-foot mansion overlooks the estate, including the medieval village.

Whether you want a group trip or a romantic getaway, a trip to the exclusive Il Borro is a must in Italy. From horseback riding to tours of the winery, you’ll find plenty to do at this historic resort. And when night falls, head to Osteria del Borro for a classic Tuscan meal with many of the ingredients sourced from the estate’s own gardens.

About Forbes Travel Guide Editor Hayley Bosch

Majoring in French and Italian in college yielded some of the best food (in my own humble opinion) and vacations (everyone wants to travel with someone who’s fluent) that I could imagine. And as a Content Editor at Forbes Travel Guide, I’m able to focus on my passion for traveling and eating — with a refined palate, of course. I love to write about my adventures; it’s a way of telling my story. I seek out everything from marathons in cities I’ve never explored to restaurants off the beaten path. When I’m not eating my way through my world travels, I’m chatting with our Tastemakers to help tell their stories of travel, food and business.
