When U.S. president Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un met on June 12, it was a moment many thought they would never see. And while it will take some time to learn the full effects of that meeting, we already know plenty about Capella Singapore, the site of the historic gathering.
Here are a few things about the Sentosa island property, which has proudly held a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star distinction since 2013, that you may not have noticed while watching news highlights over the past few days.
The Style
With its old-colonial stylings meshing with contemporary indulgences, Capella Singapore is an example to us all in how different ideals can work wonderfully together. Bungalows that were used in the 1800s as barracks and common areas for the British military have been marvelously converted into accommodations that feature white-marble accents, walnut furnishings and the latest in-room technology.
The villas and Colonial Manors turn up the sophistication even more. These palaces, which range from 1,400 to nearly 4,700 square feet, offer private plunge pools, outdoor rain showers and expansive balconies that look onto the South China Sea.
The Setting
Credit London-based architects Foster + Partners for the way in which Capella Singapore seems to gently meander through the 30-acre campus. But even beyond the resort’s architectural splendor — a trio of pools along the verdant hillside is nothing short of breathtaking — it’s the natural wonders that stand out most. When you walk past lush heritage trees and strutting resident peacocks, you feel a sense of vibrancy that might only be matched by a treatment at the Five-Star Auriga Spa.
The Dining
While we don’t have much intel into what was on the menu during the summit, we’re confident that the food was stellar. Cuisine is of optimum importance at Capella Singapore — even when influential world leaders aren’t paying a visit.
From Mediterranean-flavored The Knolls and Chinese-influenced Cassia to the warm, romantic Bob’s Bar and a can’t-miss weekend brunch, chef David Nicolas Senia’s culinary program is a consistent demonstration in fresh, calculated elegance.
If you need a closer inspection, Chef’s Table is a newer epicurean entry that allows you to sample from Capella Singapore’s tasty world through customizable breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners.
