Here’s another reason to book a trip to the Windy City: Park Hyatt Chicago’s newly renovated Lake Suite by Bottega Veneta. Coming from the Italian fashion house’s own line of furniture and accessories, the plush-yet-minimalist suite offers unobstructed views of Lake Michigan and Chicago’s historic Water Tower Place from its 17th-floor aerie.
The suite features an open living room, kitchenette, bedroom and two bathrooms, plus furnishings from Bottega Veneta’s META line that include armchairs, a sofa bed and a two-piece chaise lounge called a brisée. The dining room table and chairs, leather-fronted dressers and end tables are also from the house collection. And in the living room, the settee is actually a folding camp bed in woven canvas and leather trim that defines modern camping style, down to the wingnut details on the stainless steel legs.
No detail was overlooked in the suite’s décor: Six-foot tall floor lamps are sheathed in woven leather and topped with twine-wrapped drum shades; the cashmere throws and art-heavy book collection were hand-selected by Bottega Veneta creative director Thomas Maier; and the fashion house’s signature intrecciato style of woven leather is sprinkled throughout the 1,400-square-foot space. It’s all draped in a neutral palette of Bottega Veneta house colors like ash and pergamena (a soft white) that melt away the walls and tray ceilings, allowing the enormous bay windows and butter-soft leather furniture to stand out.
Park Hyatt Chicago shares a building with the fashion brand’s boutique, making it a natural choice for creating this custom suite, according to Lynne Bredfeldt, the hotel’s director of public relations. “It’s the only collaboration of this sort in North America,” she says, noting that the other two Bottega Veneta-designed suites exist in The St. Regis hotels in Rome and Florence. The suite’s completion, along with the new penthouse Water Tower Suite, marks the end of Park Hyatt Chicago’s two-year renovation, which overhauled multiple hotel spaces including the lobby, meeting spaces and seventh-floor NoMI Kitchen, Lounge and Spa areas.
Love the décor enough to bring it home? The suite’s on-call personal shopper will arrange a private visit to the boutique downstairs, where you can peruse armchairs or delicate woven-leather pillows that will remind you of time spent relaxing in the bay window seats that overlook Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. If nothing else, the $4,500-per-night sticker will certainly buy memories of your luxurious designer suite at the Park Hyatt Chicago.
