For two days filled with icy, family-friendly fun, put on your snow boots and head to The American Club resort in the village of Kohler, Wisconsin, this weekend for Winterfest. The Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel will host all sorts of wintry events and activities January 26 and 27 to celebrate the coolest of seasons.
Winterfest events include snowshoeing around the serene Wood Lake, where you can also ice skate and take part in one of the most innovative activities: ice golf. Kohler is known for its golf courses, so the experts at the Kohler Golf Academy put together a shortened golf course on the ice of Wood Lake (pending weather conditions) with tees, greens, fairways and plenty of waffle balls.
Golf isn’t the only sport to get the icy treatment. Enjoy a chilly new take on another sport with ice bowling. Played with the usual bowling balls and pins, ice bowling puts the lane on a sheet of ice for a slick variation on this classic. Proceeds from both ice golf and ice bowling will go to the Above & Beyond Children’s Museum of Sheboygan.
The events don’t stop there, though. Dog sledding demonstrations and rides, a Wisconsin cheese tasting, horse-drawn wagon rides, curling and the chance to make giant snow sculptures are all part of the fun. Kids will love scaling the giant Snow Mountain, and adults can take a complimentary outdoor yoga class — affectionately called “SNOga.” At the end of the day, warm up with s’mores at a lakeside bonfire. Along with the Winterfest events, take advantage of specials at the Shops at Woodlake, which is offering 30 to 70 percent discounts.
