In the winter, mornings can bring a fresh blanket of snow to cover the trees and shores around Lake Tahoe. The sparkling white expanse looks beautiful and only adds to the magic of Edgewood Tahoe.
Located on the Nevada part of the lake, right on the state border, the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star getaway offers stunning views of the crystalline water and snow-capped mountains, easy access to winter sports, a morning après-sleep cart to help you wake up (set up in the lobby, the complimentary offering includes tea, green juice, granola, fresh fruit and instructional stretch and yoga cards), delectable cuisine and a spa to steam in after a day playing in the snow.
The Villas
Recently, Edgewood constructed a line of elegant villas, perfect for guests looking for a cabin-in-the-woods vibe. But these cabins provide a luxurious upgrade with a private outdoor hot tub and fire pit, three bathrooms, cozy electric fireplaces in multiple rooms and nightly s’mores delivery.
The sizes of the villas vary, but the smallest of the bunch comes with a large master suite upstairs and a two-bed room on the first floor. A mini kitchen complete with a wine fridge makes prepping a simple meal possible. As a bonus, on the first morning of your stay, the Tahoe resort delivers a basket of fresh pastries to start your stay on a sweet note.
The Spa
At Four-Star Spa Edgewood, find a subtle crystal theme woven throughout, from the geometric carpet in the hall to the gem-infused waters to the crystal massage — a transformative service featuring locally sourced smoky quartz, amethyst and other gemstones. The crystal additions function as part of the spa’s holistic approach to treatments, which also includes techniques and tools such as reiki, LED light therapy, CBD-infused massage oil and diamond dust used in certain facials.
After a service, a dip in the outdoor hot tub or a session in a steam room round out the experience. If you opt to take a shower in the spa afterward, make sure to utilize the eucalyptus spray for an additional layer of soothing aromatherapy.
The Dining
With three main restaurants at Edgewood, you have little need to leave the 235-acre property. Located in the clubhouse along the golf course, Brooks’ Bar and Deck offers a casual dining experience for lunch and dinner with plenty of televisions to catch whatever game is on. The food leans toward classic American fare with items such as a French dip sandwich, pulled pork sliders and chili, but it features a few globally influenced dishes as well, like the gochujang cauliflower and blackened tuna steak sandwich.
The dinner-only Edgewood Restaurant provides an upscale option where you can overlook the lake through soaring cathedral-like windows. As you admire the view, savor Hudson Valley foie gras, duck confit risotto, pinewood-smoked elk loin and lobster agnolotti with shaved black truffles. The wine list impresses, as do the martinis, served in an unforgettably elegant glass.
The last eatery on the property, The Bistro, serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Here the menu showcases home-style favorites like pancakes, a burger, clam chowder, fries with cheese curds, mussels and brick-oven flatbread pizzas. The Bistro’s kitchen also handles room service, just with a slightly smaller menu. The bar at The Bistro shakes up cocktails — try the flight of mimosas during weekend brunch.
Winter Fun
On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Edgewood hosts a post-lunch snowshoe adventure and history guide for any interested guests, ages 8 and up. The romp covers two miles, often trekking over the snow-covered golf course. After, enjoy an après beverage and snack by the fire pit. While the experience comes included in your stay, reservations are required.
You also have access to skates and a private ice rink surrounded by towering pines decorated with a layer of fluffy snow. Of course, skiing is a popular pastime in Tahoe, and the hotel partnered with Ski Butlers to outfit you with everything needed to enjoy a day on the slopes. There‘s also a shuttle to California Base Lodge and the Stateline Transit Center near the Heavenly Gondola.
For something more low-key, spend a cozy night playing board games in the grand lodge in front of a roaring fire. Edgewood Tahoe sets up a daily pre-dinner hot chocolate bar for anyone to enjoy, and later, a s’mores station brimming with chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers. Plenty of comfortable couches litter the area, making it an inviting spot for curling up with a book and some cocoa.
