For all the weekend warriors out there who still dream of going 18 holes with Phil Mickelson…well, keep dreaming. But for everyone else with more modest hopes of merely playing on the same courses as the golf greats, there’s good news. A handful of Ryder Cup-hosting venues, including Pinehurst (1951), The Greenbrier (1979) and Kiawah Island Golf Resort (1991), are in fact open to the public.
The 2012 Ryder Cup is scheduled for September 25 to 30 at Chicago’s Medinah Country Club. And while you won’t have a chance to rub clubs with Tiger and co. on those private greens, you can relive Seve Ballesteros’ memorable bunker shot from the 1983 event at Palm Beach’s PGA National.
The American Club’s Whistling Straits, home of the 2020 Ryder Cup, also welcomes everyday golfers onto its fairway. So, you know what that means? Now is your opportunity to play your dream round, long before Rory McIlroy and others have had a chance to spoil the links with their own highlights.
