Restaurants Going Hog Wild for National Pork Month
      By DeMarco Williams

      October 8, 2012

It’s not that we need excuses to enjoy the other white meat, but seeing as how it is National Pork Month, we might as well formally profess our love for sausage, roast and all things ham-flavored. To mark the occasion, places all across the country have either set up special menus or are highlighting favorites patrons can pig out on.

If you’re in the mood for a casual celebration of snouts, the Outer Banks’ Currituck BBQ Company is where you should commemorate the “holiday.” The rib retreat serves up slow-cooked barbecue that Miss Piggy would find hard to resist.

Places like San Francisco’s Frascati, which grills some of the finest pork chops west of the Mississippi slops, and Manhattan’s Fatty ‘Cue are a bit more refined in their décor, but when it comes to honoring the oinkers, they’re hog wild. For October, Fatty ‘Cue’s usual Southeast Asian menu is flavored with dishes like deep-fried coriander bacon and Indonesian pepper-sprinkled ribs.

Of course, if you need to schmooze with business associates while satisfying your hog hunger, you’d be wise to reserve a table at Chicago’s The Bedford, where Forbes Travel Guide tastemaker Mark Steuer is executive chef and prepares pork chops accompanied by sweet potato hash, a fried egg and golden mustard sauce. If we’re just talking about a deal-closing nightcap, New York’s Whiskey Blue has concocted the one-of-a-swine Bacon & Eggs, a drink that mixes smoked bacon, whipped egg whites and a shot of bourbon. It’s also a nice way to toast to National Pork Month.
