The New Rosewood London Opens Today

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is having quite the year — its Vancouver hotel became the first in Canada to earn the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star, and today it makes its European debut with the opening of Rosewood London. Housed in a beautiful 1914 Edwardian Belle Époque building on High Holborn, this glamorous hotel is the British capital’s newest gem. The 166-foot cupola, grand carriageway and stunning courtyard are just a few of the aspects sure to make Rosewood London a staple on the city’s luxury hotel roster.

Forbes Travel Guide Tastemaker Tony Chi is the brains behind the chic interior design of all the accommodations, public areas and event spaces, lending his signature style through materials such as lacquer, textured wood veneers and prismatic mirrors. The rooms are simple yet elegant with wide-striped carpet, Italian marble bathrooms and contemporary furniture, all of which help the space give off the air of a modern London flat. Of course, the real indulgence at Rosewood London is the Grand Manor House Wing — a 6,295-square-foot, six-bedroom suite that features a private entrance and elevator. It even has its own postcode. Some of the other suites at the hotel are still in the works and will be revealed over the next couple of months.

The London hotel’s signature restaurant, Holborn Dining Room, and the adjoining Holborn Delicatessen, will open in February 2014. The brasserie-esque dining room will focus on fine British dishes, while the deli will offer coffee, tea and treats for those on the go. But if you’re staying at Rosewood London before February, rest assured that you won’t go hungry. You can take afternoon tea in the Mirror Room, which is — you guessed it — adorned with mirrors, and serves all-day fare as well. Otherwise, head to the Martin Brudnizki-designed bar for a delightful meal of Indian curries or European-style casseroles, and a taste of the hotel’s own label of gin.

And when it’s time to relax, book a treatment at Sense Spa, which will be unveiled in November.

About Forbes Travel Guide Editor Hayley Bosch

Majoring in French and Italian in college yielded some of the best food (in my own humble opinion) and vacations (everyone wants to travel with someone who’s fluent) that I could imagine. And as a Content Editor at Forbes Travel Guide, I’m able to focus on my passion for traveling and eating — with a refined palate, of course. I love to write about my adventures; it’s a way of telling my story. I seek out everything from marathons in cities I’ve never explored to restaurants off the beaten path. When I’m not eating my way through my world travels, I’m chatting with our Tastemakers to help tell their stories of travel, food and business.
