Since it’s often touted as one of America’s greenest cities, Austin is chock-full of sustainable-minded restaurants. From a meaty sandwich at a corner deli to the Akaushi strip steak at Trio inside Four Seasons Hotel Austin, each bite of beef in this Texas town is about as natural as it gets. And when it comes to indulging in red meat, nothing beats a burger—especially in the Lone Star State. If you’re headed to Austin, we recommend hitting up one of these hip burger joints:
Elevation Burger. With its grass-fed, free-range beef, this spot serves up some of the tastiest burgers in town. (Bonus: The French fries are cooked in olive oil, which makes us feel a little bit healthier.) Our favorite is the Elevation burger. It comes with two patties topped with thick slices of cheddar cheese and your choice of toppings—just name your favorites, and Elevation Burger probably has them in stock.
Terra Burger. It’s all in the name, right? Terra Burger keeps it all natural, all the time—even the milkshakes are organic. For a true taste of Texas, order up the Hill Country Hickory Burger, topped with cheddar, barbeque sauce, onions and pickles.
Hopdoddy. Located in the trendy South Congress area, Hopdoddy is a magnet for hipper-than-thou burger connoisseurs. Just don’t get too distracted by the people-watching—you’ll want to focus on the joint’s primo patties. The Black Angus beef is grinded in house daily and toppings include luxury ingredients like truffles. Opt for the Primetime burger: American Kobe beef, brie, truffle aioli, arugula, caramelized onions and steak sauce.
These sustainable eateries are making Texas greener, one burger at a time.
