      What's New In Miami
      By Correspondent Stephanie Goldberg Glazer

      November 19, 2012

New shops, hotels, restaurants and events always keep Miami fresh and exciting. Here’s the latest on the city’s ever-changing scene.

As of early November, it no longer costs a fortune to be a fashionista in Miami. Trendy friends in other parts of the U.S. and Europe have long known that H&M is a great source for inexpensive-yet-stylish fashions, and the recently opened Lincoln Road location in the heart of Miami Beach is no exception. Proof that discerning Miamians are embracing H&M’s newest flagship? A crowd lined up overnight to be the first to enter the store on its celebrity-studded opening day.

On the hotel front, fresh from its November 8 opening bash, the Philippe Starck–designed SLS Hotel on Collins Avenue and 17th Street in South Beach has luxury written all over it. Among other amenities, the boutique property features iPads — with “Champagne Now!” buttons — in every room; The Bazaar, a José Andrés restaurant, will satisfy your appetite before a night on the town.

Also new and noteworthy is The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort. The fact that it’s located directly across the street from the prestigious Bal Harbour Shops makes it easy for guests to shop with abandon. After you’ve worked up an appetite browsing the stores, head to the hotel’s J&G Grill by Jean-Georges Vongerichten for inventive twists on classics, such as black truffle pizza with fontina cheese or tuna tartare with avocado, radish and soy ginger dressing.

Miami’s arts and cultural scene is also always changing. From December 6 through 9, Art Basel Miami Beach will showcase artists from around the world during the event’s 11th edition. Photography, avant-garde art and everything in between will be available from established artists and cutting-edge newcomers alike at the main exhibit at the Miami Beach Convention Center — and at satellite events around Miami.
