Bostonians know how to make the most of their all-too-brief summer season, with outdoor dining, movie nights under the stars, rooftop pool parties and cocktails out on the patio. The following luxury hotels around town have come up with creative ways to embrace the warm weather, so enjoy them while you can — summer doesn’t last forever, especially in Boston.
Boston Harbor Hotel
Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Boston Harbor Hotel embraces its waterfront location with an annual Summer in the City event series, which runs from June through early September.
Tuesdays to Thursdays feature themed live music starting at 6 p.m. Depending on your tastes, visit on Pop Soul Tuesdays, Rat Pack Wednesdays or Blues Barge Thursdays. Either night, you can dance, drink and eat under the stars on the hotel’s Rowes Wharf Sea Grille patio or Harborwalk Terrace.
On Friday nights, you can look forward to Movies by Moonlight at dusk, with films like Captain America, Casablanca the Boston-centered Fever Pitch and many others.
If you feel like staying overnight, the hotel offers a Celebrate Summer package through September 21, which includes a $75 credit to be used for dining, a spa treatment or even toward your room.
Taj Boston
Without a doubt, the iconic Taj Boston, marking its 90th anniversary, flaunts some of the most gorgeous views in the city. Set across the street from the Public Garden, it’s cause for celebration when the Four-Star hotel opens its seasonal Sunday brunch at the Rooftop at The Taj, which runs through November.
A delicious buffet features customized eggs Benedict, a waffle station, a raw bar and sushi, dim sum, stir fry and Indian specialties among other items. Every adult gets a complimentary glass of rosé, and there’s also a bloody mary bar.
One way to enjoy the brunch is to simply pop up to the rooftop from your room. The hotel’s 90th anniversary package includes an overnight stay, an anniversary welcome amenity and a bottle of French sparkling rosé, available all summer long through September.
The Colonnade Hotel
Home to Boston’s only rooftop pool, The Colonnade Hotel hosts the immensely fun (not to mention tasty) Rooftop Chefs series every other Tuesday through September 13. Not only do you get to enjoy selections from acclaimed local chefs like Jason Santos, Karen Akunowicz, Julie Cutting and Tony Maws during the events, but 100 percent of the ticket sales go to the nonprofit Share Our Strength/No Kid Hungry organization.
The poolside pop-up is a casual cookout-style event, so don a swimsuit, take a dip and nosh on a custom tasting menu of two to four dishes, along with a complementing dish or cocktail pairing from the hotel’s own executive chef.
The Liberty Hotel
The distinctive Liberty Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, housed in a former prison built in 1851, has come a long way from its original roots. Still, it has kept various reminders of its past. Clink and Alibi are two of its drinking and dining establishments open year-round, but The Yard, an outdoor eatery, is only open in the summer.
On Fridays, the restaurant offers a special Dinner in The Yard series, which includes a communal four-course meal designed by executive chef Anthony Dawodu, as well as either a wine or cocktail pairing for each dish.
The chef, mixologist and/or guest vintner are always in attendance to discuss the meal and accompanying beverages. Themes for the summer dinner series include rosé, taste of the Mediterranean and shellfish.
