There’s no denying Paris’ splendor when it comes to its design and architecture. From the modern marvel of the Louvre’s glass pyramid to the iconic Eiffel Tower, the City of Light isn’t at a loss for style, and that includes its hotels. Paris has an abundance of places to call your temporary home while visiting, but check out these amazing design hotels for a stylish stay.
Located just blocks from the Eiffel Tower in the 7th arrondissement, Hotel Thoumieux is a gem for several reasons. First, the design is both eclectic and sophisticated, as it was done by famed designer India Mahdavi and the locally based creative team at M/M (Paris), along with hotelier-restaurateur Thierry Costes. Details such as mix-and-match textiles and patterns, colorful walls, fresh flowers and inviting claw-footed bathtubs make the property a chic place to reside during your time in Paris. The quaint 15 rooms are outfitted with iPads and Illy espresso machines, and each bathroom comes stocked with luscious products by Aesop. Dine in style at the hotel’s two restaurants from chef Jean-François Piège — a brasserie and a fine-dining eatery — centered around seasonal ingredients and creative cooking. Both are worth checking out whether you’re a guest of the hotel or not. 79 Rue Saint Dominique, 75007
La Maison Champs Elysées Paris
The first hotel to be designed by Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela, Maison Champs Elysées Paris is a fine example of the relationship between design and luxury living. Rooms and suites are swathed in a minimalist aesthetic, such as stark-white walls and tiled bathrooms only accented by a simple pop of color like a red rug. Nosh on chef Benoît Hilaire’s wild boar stew or roasted scorpion fish at La Table du 8 Restaurant, or head to the dimly lit Blind Bar for a cocktail such as a Hot Martin (Grand Marnier, Canadian Club whiskey, Campari, vermouth rouge and lemon juice). The aesthetic of both the bar and restaurant uses the interplay of hard and soft textures with pairings such as concrete floors and light furniture. 8 Rue Jean Goujon, 75008
Located in the city’s center in the 10th arrondissement — a neighborhood that has seen quite a foodie revival in the last three years — Hotel Paradis was recently redone by renowned interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon. In fact, she’s also the brain behind the design of the Experimental Cocktail Group’s restaurants and bars in Paris. The hotel’s 38 rooms are modern and inviting, decked out in chic and eclectic furnishings, mismatched wallpapers and retro-inspired details such as funky light fixtures above the beds. While the design remains the shining star, amenities such as 24-hour reception and a quaint breakfast room, in addition to its prime location to attractions such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the popular Saint-Germain district, make Hotel Paradis a smart spot for travelers. 41 Rue Des Petites Ecuries, 75010
This is the design hotel of the moment in Paris. One step inside Hotel du Temps and you’ll be transported back to simpler days reminiscent of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, traipsing around Paris and spending the evening in a quaint, kitschy hotel bar smoking cigarettes and listening to jazz. The boutique hotel, the brainchild of Yoan Marciano and designed by fashion designers Alix Thomsen and her husband, Lionel Bensemoun, reopened this year with a new aesthetic and branding. From raffia-covered hallways to palm tree curtains in the guest rooms, Hotel du Temps boasts fun touches that will keep you intrigued. Downstairs, you’ll find a warm and inviting bar, open throughout the day to guests and locals, and an underground club-lounge featuring everything from DJs to jazz music. 11 Rue de Montholon, 75009
As you walk up the winding cobblestone streets of Montmartre, there lies a road lined with some of the most charming homes in all of Paris — Avenue Junot. Tucked behind a metal gate on this avenue is a secret passageway that leads to Hotel Particulier. Each suite of this five-room hotel is uniquely decorated with personal touches. Designer Morgane Rousseau is the main force behind hotel’s design, where each suite features the works of a different artist. Choose from the Trees with Ears room for its spacious interior and draped velvet accents, or Vitrine, designed by sculptor Philippe Mayaux, with its cabinet of suggestive blown-glass figurines and a large steam room. Or even opt for Vegetale, with its arboreal wallpaper and relaxing Jacuzzi. Grab a meal in the velvet- and wallpaper-swathed restaurant, complete with a crackling fireplace, or enjoy a cocktail outside surrounded by the lush gardens. Pavillon D, 23 Avenue Junot, 75018
