You can easily spend a day sifting though thousands of travel apps, but we’ve checked out the latest ones that will get you through all sorts of trip-related snafus. Here are five of our favorites:
Best NYC Guide. For an all-in-one resource on New York — from the classic must-sees to undiscovered spots — download the new goop City Guide. The user-friendly app from Gwyneth Paltrow’s company, goop, includes videos; listings of where to eat, stay, visit and shop; city walks through key Manhattan neighborhoods; and, of course, maps. ($3.99)
Best in-a-Bind App. If you often find yourself missing flights, then Next Flight may be your savior. This app scours upcoming flights from more than 1,200 airline carriers and 4,200 airports worldwide. Once you provide your origin, destination and desired travel date, the application pops out a list all available flights and their departure and arrival times. ($2.99)
Best Subway Guide. Whether you’re in D.C., Vancouver or Amsterdam, AllSubway can help you navigate the rails. This iPhone app features about 128 different cities worldwide, and each map is available offline — so even though if your Internet connection gets lost underground, you won’t. (99 cents)
Best Currency Exchange. Currency Pro tracks more than 100 exchange rates from around the world in real time. It’s perfect for quickly converting yen to dollars when you’re shopping abroad. ($4.99)
Best Keep-the-Kids-Busy App. Kids Maps is a brilliant interactive puzzle game that uses colorful artwork, voice, sound and animation to teach kids geography and keep them occupied on your iPad. An empty U.S. map gets filled in with color as the correct state location is pointed out. Pop on their headphones and let the learning begin. ($2.99)
