      Friday Travel Photo: Glendalough, Ireland
      By Forbes Travel Guide Inspector

      February 10, 2012

This week’s “Friday Travel Photo” comes from reader Sonja Garvey of Falls Church, Va. Here, she explains her snapshot: This photo was taken on a fall trip to Ireland. In the heart of Wicklow Mountains National Park in a town called Glendalough, there is an ancient monastery founded by St. Kevin in the sixth century. It was eerie walking through the partially destroyed monastic grounds that had old stone churches, a graveyard and a 103-foot-tall round tower, dating back between the 10th and 12th centuries. Nowadays, the wild Irish roses and grazing sheep have taken over the site.
