One of the best times to visit Hong Kong is from October to December, when the weather cools down, allowing the humidity to subside even with the sun still shining. In anticipation for fall and winter, we consulted one of the city’s most stylish properties, Forbes Travel Guide Recommended L’hotel Island South.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, assistant front office manager Marcel Wong offered some insight on what’s new on the island, how to find some of the area’s best hiking and where to go shopping.

What are the best winter activities in Hong Kong?
One of the best winter activities is to go hiking and explore the greener side of Hong Kong. As the first Geopark hotel in Hong Kong, L’hotel Island South is committed to promoting Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, environmental conservation and the development of eco-tourism.

We offer two hiking excursions: High Island Geo Trail to Sai Kung and Lai Chi Wo Village and Nature Trail in New Territories, enabling guests to capture the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong. The trips are part of a package, which is inclusive of a guided tour, a Geopark-themed four-course meal and accommodations.

What is new in your city?
Tai Kwun, opened in Q2 2018, is a new center for heritage and arts that brings culture and leisure experiences for all to enjoy. It is situated in the restored Central Police Station compound, one of the most significant revitalization projects in Hong Kong, comprising three declared monuments — the former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison.

Ocean Park’s Water World will boast a series of unique terraced platforms facing the South China Sea and is set to open in 2019.

How will L’Hotel Island South celebrate Chinese New Year?
L’Hotel Island South celebrates Chinese New Year with guests by providing a series of offerings, such as festive buffet dishes at Lis Café, a festive hamper and pun choi, a [traditional large dish teeming with meat, seafood and vegetables that’s considered a] “pot of fortune.”

For companies that wish to celebrate the New Year with their business partners, a thoughtful spring dinner package is also available for celebration.

In addition, the hotel lobby will be filled with festive décor.

Where are best places to go shopping in Hong Kong?
Causeway Bay, Central and Mong Kok are popular places for shopping in Hong Kong.

For mid- to upscale luxury shopping, Times Square in Causeway Bay and IFC in Central will be the ideal places. Whereas for local stalls and shops, we recommend visiting Mong Kok.

The Ladies’ Market is also another popular tourist attraction for experiencing the local culture. [The market stretches more than a half mile. Packed with over 100 stalls, it gets its name for the overabundance of women’s clothing and accessories, but men will find plenty to peruse as well.]
