      Suite Life: Mandarin Oriental, Paris
By Forbes Travel Guide Editor Ryan Craggs

      December 15, 2011

The living room in the Royale Mandarin Suite at Mandarin Oriental, Paris.

Everyone talks about Paris in the springtime, but really, there’s no bad time of year to visit. Sure, shopping the Champs-Élysées and strolling the Seine might require a heavier coat in the winter, but you also can pack in all the postcard-worthy sites without the crowds. And if you needed another reason to travel to the most romantic city in the world, Mandarin Oriental, Paris has seven of them.

The luxury hotel just opened seven brand-new suites, each with its own private terrace and unique design. The suites sit on the seventh and eighth floors of the hotel and include the Royale Mandarin Suite, Royale Orientale Suite, Cabochons Suite, Broderies de Cristal Suite, Couture Suites and Atelier Suites. The two-floor, 3,767-square-foot Royale Mandarin is the largest suite in Paris — it’s decked out with a downstairs living room (with a crystal chandelier, Bang & Olufsen technology and a 40-inch LCD TV with a virtual jukebox carrying 1,000 tracks), bar, study, upstairs bedroom and private gym. The suite serves up 360-degree views of Montmartre, the Garnier opera house, the Grand Palais, the Louvre and the Madeleine — perfect to take in after a session in your own steam room, from the oversized bathtub that looks out at the Eiffel Tower or from the private terrace’s outdoor couches (where you can arrange a private dinner and drinks).

For an authentic pied-à-terre experience, opt for one of the Atelier duplex suites (807 to 1,033 square feet) on the hotel’s top floors, with a downstairs living room and dining area, an upstairs bedroom with a dressing room and bathroom, and a balcony that opens out to Paris rooftops and monuments. If you crave Eastern décor, go with the Royale Orientale Suite (1,744 square feet). Here, you’ll find a bedroom and bathroom (with a steam shower) upstairs, and a living room, bar (clad in hand-painted crocodiles), study and large terrace downstairs. You can even connect the top-floor suites (the Atelier and Royale Mandarin) with the Royale Orientale through shared doors to make a three-bedroom penthouse, totaling to more than 10,750 square feet. If these pictures weren’t enough to lure you in, Mandarin Oriental, Paris offers a Suite Temptations package that includes three nights and a complimentary fourth evening, daily breakfast for two, a spa credit of EUR 100 (USD $130), a VIP welcome and complimentary Internet access.
