If there’s one thing we know about New York City, it is this indisputable fact: there’s always something new to see. To wit, the interior of the Statue of Liberty is reopening on October 28 in time for her 126th birthday. While she’s certainly not a new attraction, Lady Liberty did get some new features over the past year — there’s a new passenger elevator, updated bathrooms and safer conditions. The statue’s crown (the highest viewing point) will be open for reservations, which are limited through the rest of the year.
If you haven’t had your fill of NYC icons with that visit, see Andy Warhol like never before at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibit, open until December 31. Regarding Warhol: Sixty Artists, Fifty Years covers Warhol’s influence on other artists and includes around 45 works by Warhol and another 100 pieces that were inspired by him. A few blocks uptown you’ll find another new exhibit about another über-famous artist. Picasso Black and White is on display through January 23 at the Guggenheim Museum. Through more than 100 of the artist’s works, the exhibit explores Pablo Picasso’s use of black and white throughout his career.
For those who like wearing their art, new shops and boutiques abound in New York this fall, but we’re particularly excited about three newcomers: Ghurka, the leather goods brand that makes buttery soft weekender bags, opens in Soho and Massimo Dutti, the sister brand to Zara, opens its first U.S. location in Midtown. And honestly, we’re still pretty pumped about Piperlime, the on-trend, online-only boutique opening its first brick-and-mortar store back in September.
When it comes to hotels, there’s no shortage of Five-Star addresses in Manhattan either. But if you had your heart set on attending a Brooklyn Nets basketball game or concert at the just-opened Barclays Center, there are a few new exciting places to rest your head in BK. Two hotels opened this year in Williamsburg—the sophisticated King & Grove and hipster haven Wythe Hotel. Try either spot for a chance to explore the lounges and restaurants that have made this Brooklyn neighborhood a destination in itself.
