Whether you want to go bar hopping in the bustling hubs of Canggu and Ubud or linger in a secluded lounge along the water, Bali offers a stylish, relaxed and varied nightlife scene to suit every taste. And no matter which option you choose, you’ll sip tropical cocktails or premium whiskeys in some of the most stunning natural settings.

We’ve rounded up some of our favorite luxurious watering holes on the island.

      A Breathtaking Cliffside Bar

One of the island’s most famous beach bars, Rock Bar at AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI sits atop a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean at Jimbaran. With 360-degree coastal views and a bar created of recycled glass, Rock Bar offers an unrivaled Bali experience with a cocktail menu to match — savor tropical flavors in tipples like Rock My World, made with kaffir- and lemongrass-infused vodka and fresh fruits.

Although a beach bar, Rock Bar has a smart dress code, so no beachwear or flip-flops. Be sure to make a reservation in advance for top-notch service and the chilled beats of the resident DJ.

      A Serious Drinker’s Bar

If queuing for a club with watered-down drinks in plastic cups doesn’t appeal to you, head to Upstairs Bali for a little opulence in Canggu’s raucous party scene. An intimate, refined place to socialize, Upstairs is elegantly decked out in leather seating with a marble bar and serves potent cocktails — double serves are the standard, and even triples are available. The bar holds one of Bali’s most impressive whiskey collections along with quality mixers, including housemade herbal infusions, handcrafted boutique ginger ale and local juices.

Original cocktails, such as the Passed Out in the Garden (cucumber, gin, elderflower and mint) or the Monster Mule with spicy ginger, are memorable and arrive in the finest glassware. This is a destination for visitors and locals who take their cocktails and fun nights seriously.

      A Classic Beach Bar

An island holiday would not be complete without a cold beer or a fresh coconut during a day spent by the beach or pool. Azure Bar at Conrad Bali sits on the exquisite Benoa Beach, famous for its sand, marine life and watersports scene. Conrad Bali is a particularly beautiful piece of the shoreline; the property is housed in a traditional Balinese building.

Don your bathing suit and luxuriate in a private bale hut on the beach or grab a comfy lounge chair by the pool and order a gloriously vivid purple dragon fruit margarita or a local Indonesian beer. Balinese-inspired cocktails like the Rujak Bali use rice arak liquor, fresh mangoes and brown sugar. The bar closes at 6 p.m., just in time to see the vibrant orange sun set over the Indian Ocean.

      A Hidden Jungle Bar

The open-air Uma Bar, which sits by the pool amid verdant, tropical jungle at COMO Uma Ubud, makes for a tranquil place to start the evening. Tucked away from the bustling streets of Ubud, this bar comes to life later in the night with music and high-end libations served among the palm trees.

In addition to a solid wine list and fabulous cocktails crafted using local ingredients such as tamarind, fresh coconut and Indonesian arak liquor, Uma Bar prepares an impressive selection of non-alcoholic beverages from local fruits and herbs. Swing by for sunset drinks (from 5 to 7 p.m.), when you can enjoy three cocktails for the price of two.
