We always look for reasons to celebrate, especially if the festivities call for traveling. This year is full of such opportunities, as hotels commemorate some exciting milestones. From centennials to 10-year anniversaries, these luxe lodgings prove that some things really do get better with age.
2019 marks the 100-year anniversary of this Four-Star San Juan classic. This historic luxury hotel was built in 1919 by the Vanderbilt family, ushering in an era of glitz and glam to the island. It has since hosted everyone from European royalty to the Hollywood A-list.
Experience the rich history and hospitality of this Puerto Rican treasure when you book the property’s Since 1919 Centennial Package. Get the VIP treatment with suite accommodations and butler service as well as $100 credits for both dining and day tours. To top it all off, luxuriate in a 100-minute Vanderbilt Signature Massage & Facial at the Four-Star spa.
Indulge in some fun and games for this Five-Star riverside gem’s fifth birthday.
Savor a special sparkling sake crafted by local producer Shichiken in the Yamanashi Prefecture, a region known for its remarkable water purity. But Shichiken had some help: the hotel’s own staff assisted with the rice planting and harvesting, as well as the aging process in four Suntory whiskey barrels. And local artist Yoneshige Kamimura designed the label. The exclusive sip, called Suimei, is only available at the 134-room Kyoto hotel, but you can buy a bottle to continue the celebration at home.
Feeling a little more playful? The scenic stay has also debuted a commemorative fifth anniversary Monopoly board game customized to include the hotel’s restaurants, signature suites and unique art installations.
The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort
The Five-Star resort in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit is observing its 10th anniversary in style. To mark the momentous occasion at the first St. Regis in Latin America, it enlisted Mexican designer Armando Takeda to create an exclusive handbag.
Dubbed Mrs. Caroline, the feminine bag is covered with netted layers in white and the brand’s “King Cole Red,” set against blue cotton canvas. The combination of textures is supposed to recall the sand and sea. A dangling furry charm with blue beaded feet is a nod to the blue-footed booby (or bobo), a bird that can only be found in the nearby Marietas Islands and the Galapagos.
Sling the white leather straps around your shoulder for a bright, slouchy beach bag, and then remove them, fold the purse over and hold the 3D printed wooden handle to use it as an eye-catching clutch at night. You can find the limited-edition handbag in the hotel’s own shop or online at the St. Regis Boutique.
Windsor Court Hotel, New Orleans
In conjunction with the Big Easy’s tricentennial last year, this Four-Star French quarter retreat debuted an extensive $15 million renovation.
All 316 accommodations have undergone a major modernization, including new furniture, TempurPedic sleeper sofas, upgraded Italian marble bathtubs and distinctive décor from Restoration Hardware. The newest must-visit spot is Waterman Poolside Bar. Overlooking the property’s 65-foot saltwater pool, the alfresco eatery and lounge offers shared plates, sandwiches and wraps, splashy cocktails and vino on tap.
But there’s another big reason to visit this year: 2019 marks the hotel’s own 35th anniversary. To celebrate, head to The Grill Room for a rotating, prix fixe menu that’s only $35. You’ll enjoy dishes like short rib with speckled stone-ground grits, mushroom and tomato ragu, as well as banana bread pudding doused in caramel rum sauce with butter pecan ice cream.
A Tuscan-inspired beauty in Newport Beach, this Five-Star stunner continues to impress.

A beacon of Southern charm and elegance, this Four-Star Buckhead tower is welcoming its 10th anniversary with a property-wide refresh to debut in the coming months.
Expect rejuvenated guest rooms featuring a slew of tech upgrades (iPad controls for lighting, air conditioning, concierge requests and housekeeping; 65-inch TVs; and motion-sensing night lights) and a soothing sage color palette.
The revamp also will unveil Maisonnette (a new three-story meeting and event space equipped with a chef’s kitchen), an expansion of the St. Regis Bar and the addition of a 3,070-square-foot garden terrace at Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Atlas with a vaulted glass and steel roof and sliding windows that open onto One Buckhead Plaza for optimal people watching.
Thanks to a recently unveiled room renovation, you can celebrate this Five-Star skyscraper’s 10th anniversary in sumptuous comfort. Book a stay in one of the Guangzhou property’s newly debuted Premium Rooms to enjoy richly adorned accommodations (velvet, silk and soft wool furnishings accent each room in colorful tones of aquamarine and verdi olive) just steps from the Pearl River and the city’s Central Business District.
After a day of exploring the sights, return to your regal retreat for a restful night’s sleep: each room is equipped with a Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress dressed in silky 400-threat-count linens.
